Laois only has two parking attendants covering the entire county, a recent meeting was told.
The issue was raised by Independent Cllr Aidan Mullins who expressed his frustration at the lack of enforcement on illegal parking in Portarlington.
Cllr Mullins said “the lack of enforcement, it is causing a lot of frustration”.
Cllr Mullins said there were no resources for enforcement and he noted that “15 years ago we lost the traffic warden” who he said was looking after Portarlington and Mountmellick. He said Portlaoise now has Mountrath added to their area and “you have two attendants looking after the whole county” where as 15 years ago there were three wardens.
Cllr Mullins said there was little enforcement of illegal parking in Portarlington. “I think it is only once a week they get over,” he revealed. “We have less now then we had 15 years ago,” he said.
“I am asking that the Council get additional resources,” said Cllr Mullins.
The issue was discussed during the November meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
