Consideration is being given to raising a flood prone Laois road which was blocked during recent flooding.

Independent Cllr Ben Brennan asked what could be done about the road at Crossneen following the recent floods. “It is the only road that was closed,”  Cllr Brennan explained.

Laois County Council Senior Executive Engineer Tom Drennan said the matter was under review. He said it would be ok if it was raised by 600mm or a metre. “Anytime the Barrow spills there it covers the road,” he said.

He said the matter has been referred to the Office of Public Works(OPW) and the Department of Transport.

The issue was discussed during the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
