Drains on Laois road ‘overwhelmed’ due to flooding, meeting hears

Ballinteskin

Repairs are to be carried out to alleviate flooding along a road in Laois.

Independent Cllr Aisling Moran requested the work in a motion at a recent meeting. She asked “that Laois County Council alleviate the flooding from Ballinteskin to Timogue (Long Lane) as the road is in a bad state of repairs”.

In response, Senior Executive Engineer, Tom Drennan said: “Laois County Council has carried out an assessment and has identified overwhelmed drains and compromised drainage pipes. Laois County Council has commenced maintaining the drains and when completed, jet washing works will commence on the drainage pipe network. Road repairs will be carried out where necessary.”

Cllr Moran welcomed the response and said the road had recently flooded again.  She asked about repairs along the road.

Mr Drennan said the road wasn’t included in this year’s roads programme but it would be considered in the future.

The motion was seconded by Fine Gael Cllr Vivienne Phelan at the February meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
