Three Portlaoise Schools join together again this year as part of a fundraising effort for shared sports field.

Portlaoise Educate Together National School, Gael Scoil Phortlaoise and Maryborough NS host the Summerhill Family Fun and Fair Day on Sunday 29 May from 1 until 5pm on the school’s campus in Portlaoise.

This is the second annual fundraiser. The proceeds go towards developing a rugged field into an all-weather sports pitch for the three schools to share.

Among the main attractions will be a cultural craft fair with over 30 stalls selling handmade jewellery, toys, gifts, art-works, food items and holistic therapies.

Fun and games will include bouncy castles, slides, pony rides, face-painting, nail-bar, arts and crafts, disco dancing, obstacle course, penalty shoot-outs; pick a lolly, balloon darts and a favourite with children, throwing wet sponges at their teachers.

Peggy Sue’s cafe will serve hot and cold refreshments, sandwiches, cakes and sweets. Barbecued foods and ice creams will also be available at the event.

The Buggy School of Dancing will perform Irish dancing entertainment.

Two local charities, PATH and the LSPCA have been given stalls at the event to help them raise awareness of the good work that they do.

The event will feature a monster raffle with tickets available on the day or from the school’s students.

Prizes include a 40 inch LED television, two nights B&B with evening meal at the Racket Hall Hotel, two hours of spa treatments at the Heritage in Killenard, two nights B&B with evening meal at the Kilcoran Lodge Hotel & Leisure Centre, a Brother laser printer from the Office Centre Portlaoise, a Samsung tablet and a hamper worth over €100 from Bosco’s Gala store Portlaoise.

To sponsor prizes please contact the Gael Scoil on 057 8688293.

Entry fees are €3per adult, €2 per child or €10 per family.

Irish TV will film the event for its Laois County Matters Friday evening show.
