A river on the Laois Kildare border is “changing its course” and flooding a Kileen village according to a local councillor has warned.
The River Douglas flows near Mageney, Arles and Killeen.
Cllr John Moran asked that: “Laois County Council consider the danger of the River Douglas bursting its banks at Liam Warrens field”.
He raised the alarm in a motion to a recent meeting of the Graiguecullen Portarlington Municipal District.
“It is changing its course, cutting away the bank, if it bursts it may flood Killeen,” he warned.
The reply from council engineer John Ormond is that he would inspect the location within the week, and would alert Inland Fisheries.
“It should be noted however that in-river works are not permitted after September 30 each year,” he said.
