UPDATE: 'Unplanned burst' on old water pipes in Portlaoise

UPDATE: 'Unplanned burst' on old water pipes in Portlaoise

It was feared that homes in Portlaoise may have been affected by water outages today after a burst in the mains water supply.

A spokesperson for Irish Water has said that all customers currently have a water supply in Portlaoise as the water supply is being redirected to ensure customer's water supply is not interrupted. However, some areas have experienced low water pressure.

Disruptions were expected to homes at the Dublin Road, Ferndale, Greenville, Carrick Hill, Colliers Lane and surrounding areas in Portlaoise according to Irish water.

The repair crew is on site since lunchtime today carrying out repairs on a burst water main.  This was an unplanned burst that occurred on the public network due to the age of the pipeline.

Traffic management is in place and will remain in place until the work is completed. It is expected that it will remain in place until 8pm on Monday evening but depending on how the repair goes it may need to be completed on Tuesday morning.

Irish Water working in partnership with  Laois County Council are working to repair the burst.
