Laois County Council should knock a house in Durrow on the Kilkenny road to pave the for measures to tackle traffic congestion and improve road safety, according to Cllr James Kelly.
In a motion to the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District meeting, Cllr Kelly asked for proposals for the N77 and Derry Road junction.
In a written reply, Mr Fahran Naseim, road design engineer, said permission is in place to knock a house on the corner with new buildings set back from the road. He said the council would explore other options if this did not proceed.
Cllr Kelly said an opportunity was missed to install pipes for traffic lights during recent resurfacing.
“If that have to look at options it means they are going to have go digging again,” he said.
He urged the council to contact the owner of the new land and offer to demolish the house which would pave the way for safety works to be carried out.
