Safety ramps at the Rock National School would be costly

The Rock National School is located on a busy road near Mountmellick.

Ramps must be considered for the Rock National School because existing safety measures are not working.

Cllr John Joe Fennelly said work had been done but another serious accident occurred recently fortnight.

“Make it safer, that’s all I’m asking for, a lot comes down to the drivers as well,” he said. He added that ramps might work.

“It’s not money that’s the issue,” said Cllr Aird.

Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald said lorries travelled at speed near the school.

Mr Wes Wilkinson, area engineer said kerbing, traffic islands or ramps would require a significant upgrade to the public lighting.

He said he would liaise with the Road Design Section to try to find a funding source to cover a high-cost safety scheme.

In relation to the drainage issue at this location, I will arrange to have the existing gully and pipe jetted and cleaned in the coming weeks.
