A HERDER at the Ballinakill mart has been ordered to pay compensation to avoid jail, after he was convicted of selling cattle that didn’t belong to him.
Philip Doheny, of Raggetstown, Ballinakill, used the tag number of a farmer he claimed to have permission from, in order to sell two heifers for €1,422 on March 12 last year. The money was never paid over to the Ballinakill Livestock Mart, Kilkenny Road, Ballinakill.
Defence, Mr Declan Breen said his client suffers with a huge alcohol problem and there is a very real concern for his well being.
The matter was put back to October 11, for the repayment of €1,400. If all money is paid by that date, Judge Staines said she would impose a suspended sentence.
