A Portlaoise man has been banned from driving for eight years for numerous motoring offences.

Darren McInerney, 1 New Road, Portlaoise, was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for the gardaí, non display of disc, no NCT, no insurance, driving while disqualified, and valid NCT not displayed, at New Road, Portlaoise, on March 22 last year.

Garda Aodhan O’Flaithearta gave evidence that he saw McInerney’s vehicle leaving the driveway of McInerney’s home without any lights on. The car entered the nearby roundabout where a handbrake turn was performed, before it returned to the house.

Garda O’Flaithearta said he saw McInerney exiting the driver’s side of the car and going into the house. It was the next day before Garda O’Flaithearta contacted McInerney and made a lawful demand for his documents.

Judge Staines imposed a driving disqualification of eight years each on the dangerous driving, the driving while disqualified, and the driving without insurance charges. For no NCT McInerney was fined €150.
