The only thing stopping a bridge near Errill from collapsing is tar, it wa heard at the December meeting of the Mountmellick Borris-in-Ossory district.
The bridge at Campions, Clonmeen is collapsing, Cllr Brendan Phelan reported.
“I understand the bridge is collapsing underneath. A landowner told me he noticed stones dropping out, all that’s holding it is tar and stones,” said Cllr Phelan, asking Laois County Council to repair the bridge.
He had the backing of Rathdowney Cllr John King.
“It used to be humpbacked, now it’s hollow, because it’s falling,” said Cllr King.
County Hall will investigate once the weather improves.
“Once water levels drop we will request a bridge inspection to be carried out. Subject to findings and funding, any issues will be addressed,” said engineer Brenda Cuddy.
