A full review of all footpaths in the Borris-in-Ossory area is being carried out by Laois County Council. Following this review, work on footpaths will be carried out on a priority basis.
At a recent meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory area councillors, Cllr James Kelly had asked the council to provide funding to repair the footpaths on Main Street, Borris-in-Ossory. He also asked the council to repair the manhole cover outside Coffey’s House.
Area engineer, Breda Cuddy, said the manhole cover in question was an Eircom cover and she had reported the issue to Eircom.
But she said she hadn’t heard back from them.
Cllr Kelly explained that trucks were parking on top of the footpath and this was damaging the manhole cover.
“Under health and safety we can’t touch an Eircom manhole cover,” Ms Cuddy explained.
Cllr Brendan Phelan said he had the same motion in about the manhole cover for the last four years.
