A FIELD in the Knockmay area of Portlaoise could be set for a make-over.
Laois County Council announcing they are hopeful of finalising plans for a refurbishment of the area in early 2013.
Cllr Alan Hand proposed a motion for the council to carry out improvement works at the Portlaoise estate, as he said the area had fallen “to wrack and ruin” in recent times.
Michael Rainey of the housing department replied that the council were currently looking at costing and plans should be outlined in January of next year.
Cllr Caroline Dwane remarked that the whole area has improved drastically, with a Neighbourhood Watch scheme recently launched and future plans for the field in place. Cllr Kathleen O’Brien said that the project had been put on the long finger and the field was very unsightly looking.
“There’s dumping taking place, there are bonfires and people are burning rubbish on it. It takes from the whole area,” she said.
