Laois TD Charlie Flanagan has welcomed the creation of 50 new jobs in Portarlington under the Succeed in Ireland Initiative.
“The economic downturn has meant that we have had to shift the focus away from sectors such as the construction industry that employed a large number of people in the boom times. The Irish jobs sector has since refocused and this Government is now applying its efforts on exploring other industries and attracting more Foreign Direct Investment to Ireland.
Deputy Flanagan continued: “This is about going back to basics and harnessing the good relationships and contacts that the Irish diaspora have built up over many years. By using these contacts effectively we can advertise the benefits of locating a business to Ireland and in turn towns such as Portarlington receive an economic and social dividend with the announcement of jobs”.
