Gardaí say they would welcome CCTV cameras on the streets in Mountmellick to help with crime solving.
“When we are doing any detection, it’s the first question we ask. We have no control over (installing CCTV), that is up to the council. We would welcome it,” said Garda Inspector Aidan Farrelly at the JPC meeting.
He said larger towns had got funding from the Department of Justice. “The public and businesses have been very generous in allowing access to their CCTV,” he said.
