Cllr Willie Aird is planning to propose a bye law to stop people having drinking sessions in Portlaoise’s public parks.
“We have a problem in the parks with drinking. It is up to the Gardaí to ask what age they are,” he said at last Tuesday’s public policing meeting.
He said “nobody has a problem if it’s a few cans and they are well behaved”.
“The problem is they are not young people, they are adults, they do get abusive. They are buying slabs of beer at cost price, taking them to a public place to drink and being a public nuisance,” he said, thanking Portlaoise Gardaí for their “good work”.
