New tree damage in Laois estate on Carlow border

Footpaths in a Graiguecullen housing estate have been damaged by trees again, Laois councillors have claimed.

Cllr Aisling Moran, Fine Gael, raised the issue with public representatives at a recent meeting with Laois County Council officials.

She tabled a motion asking that the council investigate the footpaths and trees in the Rochfort Manor estate following reports that some tree roots are damaging the road and footpaths.

Mr. Philip McVeigh, Senior Executive Engineer, replied that the Council has investigated the footpaths.

“We will arrange for repair works to be carried out,” he said.

Cllr Moran welcomed this as did Cllr Padraig Fleming of Fianna Fáil. He said it has been a recurring problem and previous repairs have been carried out.

The meeting was also told that the roundabouts and verges have been maintained and hedges cut on the N80 Northern Relief Road in Graiguecullen.

The issue was raised at the recent Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District meeting.
