“It’s an awful affliction,” said Cllr Willie Aird on hearing of a 44 percent increase in Portlaoise of detections of drugs possessed for sale or supply.
“It’s very sad. I would appeal to those people to get help, young people especially in the case of heroin. I have sympathy for the guards and their parents.
There should be more resources put in place by the government. It’s an awful waste of life. They get involved in crime even if not brought up that way, driven by addiction,” he said.
