A Portlaoise County Councillor has described one of the town’s most troubled estates as “beautiful.”
At last week’s meeting of Laois County Council, councillors agreed to take in charge two Portlaoise estates - Abbeycourt and Heathfields and Wilton Lawns in Portarlington.
“I would like to thank Laois County Council for their work in Abbeycourt, it’s a beautful estate now. It’s been a long road and a lot of work has gone into the estate,” Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald said.
Cllr Willie Aird said the anti-social behaviour in the estate had improved.
Abbeycourt hit the headlines recently when residents spoke of their living nightmare and the level of anti-social behaviour in the estates.
Cllr Jerry Lodge said the residents wanted to make a submission to the council, on matters that were not covered by planning.
He asked the council to make a one off amount of money available to the residents for one year.
“There are small things the residents would like to see improvedin the estate,” Cllr Lodge told the meeting.
