There is no way of finding out how much money was collected in the Borris in Ossory electoral area through the household charge, councillors heard at the recent Borris in Ossory electoral area meeting.
Cllr John King asked that the council to make known how much money was collected in the area and what percentage was available for spending the area.
However Gerry Murphy, head of finance with the council said to the councillors that these figures were not available to them.
“The household charge was abolished from January 1, 2013 and replaced with the local property tax. The local property tax forms part of the local government fund which is distributed to local authorities on a quarterly basis. It is not possible to know how much was collected in the Borris in Ossory area as that level of detail is not available”.
Cllr King said that there has to be a positive result.
“People think that it is going into their area. It is just to reassure people that it is coming back”, he told councillors at the meeting.
