This Sunday May 3 Heywood Community School will welcome the public to join with pupils on a fundraising walk, run or cycle around its scenic gardens and lakes.
The money raised will be split between Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, and a school reflooring project.
The charity was chosen in honour of transition year pupil Ciarán Breen, who has not let CF stop his sporting success.
Principal Philip Bowe said Ciarán is battling CF really well.
“He had a struggle from first to third year but this year he is corner back on the under 16 football B team, the South Leinster Final winning team,” he said.
Ciarán and his twin Killian will be among hundreds of pupils taking part on May 3, with prizes for the first students home.
“Our pupils are great supporters, but this year we are sending a special invite to families with children and buggies. We have changed the route so half of the 5k is around our beautiful grounds, and we are looking forward to good weather,” Mr Bowe said.
It is year two in the five year reflooring project to replace old carpets with hygienic marmoleum. Last year’s event raised €13,000, which saw two floors replaced.
“The rest will be done as we go. It will cost in the region of €80,000,” said Mr Bowe.
A special guest from CF Ireland is hoped to attend.
“There are no sponsorship cards, just come and make a donation,” said the principal, thanking the Parents Association and staff for their help with refreshments.
20km / 50km Cycle starts at 10am, registration at 9am. The 5k Run/Walk at 11am, registration at 10am. Adults €10, Students €5, Children €3. Parking, showers & refreshments available.
