Members of the Laois Pro-life group demonstrated outside Fine Gael TD, Charlie Flanagan’s office to call on him to vote against government’s abortion legislation.
“A vote for abortion by Mr Flanagan would be a vote against the basic right to life enjoyed by all people in Ireland, and would also contradict much of the psychiatric and medical evidence informing optimal care for mother and child during pregnancy, Joe Conroy of Laois for Life said.
He said that Pro-Life groups around the country are insisting that specific guidelines be published on the proper management of life-threatening pregnancies.
“Such a move they say is in the best interests of both mother and baby, as opposed to the legalisation of abortion,” Mr Conroy said.
In response, Deputy Flanagan said any group is entitled to protest peacefully at any time or any where.
