“We’re showing no respect to the elderly people who use that road,” declared Cllr Willie Aird, after being informed that Laois County Council claim it is not possible to put a pedestrian crossing on Fr Brown Avenue, Portlaoise.
“The road should never have been built without one,” he said at last week’s town council meeting. “People being health conscious are out walking and it’s a very busy road, it’s embarrassing that there isn’t a crossing there.”
He vowed to keep the motion on the agenda.
“I can’t understand how it hasn’t been done,” said Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald.
“During GAA matches there are cars parked on both sides of the road, I’m surprised nobody was knocked down there,” said Cllr Kathleen O’Brien.
