The local gardaí are appealing for information following five separate burglaries from homes and businesses at the weekend.

The local gardaí are appealing for information following five separate burglaries from homes and businesses at the weekend.

A garda spokesperson has revealed that businesses in Portlaoise, Durrow and Mountmellick were hit between Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5. An amount of cash was stolen from a business on the Dublin Road, Portlaoise, last Friday, while one business in Durrow town and one on the outskirts of Mountmellick were struck some time between Friday night and early Saturday. Nothing was taken in the latter two incidents.

Meanwhile, property was taken from a house during a break-in in Ballyroan on Sunday, April 6. And an arrest was made during a break-in at a house in Portarlington on Friday, when the culprit was spotted in the act by local residents.

Any witnesses should call the gardaí on 05786 74100.
