Primary and secondary schools around Laois got in on the fun of Seachtain na Gaeilge from March 9 to 13.
In Mountrath Community School the whole school enjoyed traditional ceilis, singing, music, puck fada and speaking ‘as gaeilge’, assisted by Transition Year students.
In Portlaoise Scoil Bhríde turned green for Lá Gaelach on Friday 13th. The school broadcasted music and craic on ‘Scoil Bhríde Radio’, while the children dressed in green, played games, watched cartoons on TG4 and munched on green treats. Thanks to Treasa Ainiféin co-ordinator, an t-úasal Éoin Ó Mhiach and the Scoil Bhríde radio committee.
Timahoe NS performed their annual ceolchoirm concert. Songs included Roth mor an Tsaoil (Circle of Life) and Lig É Dul (Let it Go), and Póg Mé, while third class recited Mise agus Leipreachan Bob. 13 students won awards at the Scriobh Leabhar Awards Ceremony in Portlaoise, while parade projects were done on Thomas Francis Meagher and the origin of the Irish Flag,
Principal Ann Bergin said it was a “ceiliuradh iontach”.
