Woman accused of assaulting two Gardai

A woman appeared at Portlaoise District Court accused of assaulting two gardai in the town.

Emila Danhelova, 25, of 25 Market Square, Portlaoise is charged with threatening and abusive behaviour at Lilly’s Bar,  being intoxicated on Lower Main Street and assaulting on the Abbeyleix Road in Portlaoise on April 16 last. 

Sgt JJ Kirby said as  “it is an alleged assault on two garda members” a file would have to go to the DPP. 

Judge Patricia Cronin asked the accused if she had a solicitor. When the woman said no, she asked if she worked and how much she earned. On hearing the defendant earned €350 per week, Judge Cronin told her she was entitled to free legal aid. 

She adjourned the matter until June 16 for DPP directions.
