The IDA do not take either Portlaoise or Laois seriously, according to Cllr Matthew Keegan, who has called on the company to prioritise Portlaoise as a jobs location.
Speaking at this week’s town council meeting in County Hall, Cllr Keegan raised a motion about the IDA’s success locally, “or lack thereof”.
“A couple of years ago a delegation from IDA came here and we can see the lack of success of the company,” he said. “I think they don’t take Portlaoise or Laois seriously. I know of a new business in Portarlington and the man did it off his own bat with no help from the IDA.
“We’re letting them off lightly,” he added.
Cllr Jerry Lodge said the matter should be raised at a national level and suggested the council meet with the IDA.
Mayor, Cllr Willie Aird said they would write to the company and request a meeting.
