Cllr Tom Mulhall’s request to install a roundabout with lighting at Kennel’s Cross, Emo was turned down by Laois County Council, it was heard at the Emo area meeting.
“At this time, there is no available funding for work of this nature; consequently the council has no plans to consider a roundabout at this location,” replied roads engineer PJ Dempsey.
“This is four regional roads with a big volume of traffic, there hasn’t been a fatality, but vehicles are going into the landowner’s field. This is something that should have been done. Plan B is to erect barriers but I would prefer to see a proper job being done,” Cllr Mulhall said.
He added that he wants a roundabout because lighting is mandatory for them, and is needed at the busy junction, where the Mountmellick to Emo road intersects with the Portlaoise to Port road.
Acting senior engineer Stan Cullen said he would bring the concerns to the roads office.
“This is ongoing, we’ve all brought it up,” added Cllr Mulhall, with the agreement of Cllr Ray Cribbin and Cllr Paul Mitchell.
