A Mountmellick man has been given the benefit of the probation act for careless driving, after he drove into the path of an oncoming truck sustaining numerous injuries.
Colin Dunne, Strahard, Mountmellick, pulled out of a filling station on the Portlaoise Road, Mountrath, at 3.30am on August 2, 2013. A truck hit his vehicle and he received injuries including a broken clavicle, a fractured rib and head injuries.
He had no previous convictions.
Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said it had been dark and there was hoarding obstructing his view.
“He judge the road badly, and came out the worst of it himself,” said Ms Fitzpatrick.
