Rosenallis primary school teacher Gemma Goulding is doing her bit to help resolve the growing homeless problem in Laois.
Crowned International Miss Macra last August, she is using her time in the role to raise awareness and raise money for Laois Friends of Simon, who care for homeless people in the county.
“With all the bad weather at the start of the year, I was concerned for people who were homeless, they can be forgotten about. I started volunteering with them by bag packing. There is no hostel in Laois but there is an informal centre in Mulhall’s Portlaoise, where people who find themselves homeless can get counselling, and get help to rehouse them,” she said.
This Thursday June 12 she is holding a Bring & Buy sale and Cake Sale in Rosenallis NS where she teaches first and second class.
“It starts at 2pm but people are welcome to bring in items like toys and books, and cakes to the school from 9am. All the community are invited,” she said.
Her next fundraiser event will be on July 12 when she plans to climb Croagh Patrick..
