A young man in his 20’s has been arrested following a wave of public order incidents in Castletown in recent weeks.
Residents in the rural village were left living in fear as a van was set alight outside Phelan’s shop, which had also been broken into on a numerous occasions.
It is also understood that there have been a number of other incidents including animal cruelty, break-ins to local homes and cars and criminal damage.
A local man in his 20’s, who is known to gardai was arrested on Monday night. He was being questioned in Portlaoise Garda Station on Tuesday.
Superintendent John Maloney, Portlaoise Garda Station said they hoped to take the suspect to Tullamore District Court this Wednesday morning to be charged in relation to the incidents.
