SINN Féin members in Mountmellick say they are stepping up their campaign to highlight the lack of adequate transport services in the town with the priority a bus stop on O’Connell Sqare.
The party say that since they have campaigned for better services and Cllr Stephen Lynch has raised the issue on a number of occasions at town council and council area meetings.
Chairperson of the party locally Adam Haughton said: “While progress on providing these services may appear to be slow, we are delighted to note that the town council has moved the issues onto their short term priority list, which we hope means, that the issues will be addressed in the near future.”
Mr Haughton said that an ideal and safe location has been identified in O’Connell Square that will facilitate buses coming from both directions by using the one-way traffic flow already operating in this area.
Cllr Stephen Lynch said that he would continue to highlight the need for these services every opportunity he gets at both town and council meetings.
“This is the ideal location for the bus shelter,” said Cllr Lynch.
