Safety measures are needed at Hermitage Cross in Killenard, according to Cllr Tom Mulhall.
He asked Laois County Council to put some measures in place to make the spot safe, at the April meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen municipal district.
“There have been quite a lot of minor accidents and near misses. In one direction there is only a very short view of ten or 15 metres,” he said.
The good news from senior engineer Orla Barrett was that money has been received for improvement works under the Road Safety Remedial Measures Scheme.
“The road design office is completing the design, and on approval, the area office staff will complete these works. Design is at an advanced stage, it is anticipated that the works will be completed in the second or third quarter of the year,” her reply stated.
“That is good news. Sooner rather than later,” Cllr Mulhall added.
“This road has had major problems over the years, it is great to see it being done,” said Cllr Paschal McEvoy.
