An Abbeyleix man who was intoxicated and became abusive to security staff at last year’s Electric Picnic was fined €300 for public order offecnces at Portlaoise District Court, last week.
Kennethy Swayne, Tonduff, Abbeyleix was charged with intoxication in a public place, failing to comply with garda direction and threatening and abusive behaviour on September 12, last year on the Cork Road, Stradbally.
Inspector Aidan Farrelly told the court that Swayne had approached the barrier at Electric Picnic and when he was refused entry became abusive to the security staff.
“He was intoxicated and refused to desist from his behaviour,” the Inspector said.
The defendant said he just wanted to get to this car to change his clothes.
“I could see me car from the barrier. I just wanted to go and change my clothes. I was mucked up,” he said.
Swayne admiteed that he had taken “a good bit of drink” but denied being abusive. He said he was not working at the minute either.
Judge Catherine Staines gave Swayne the opportunity to pay €300 to the court poorbox in lieu of a criminal conviction.
