It was the end of an era for Borris in Ossory area councillors as they held their final area meeting earlier this month.
The next area meeting will cover Mountmellick and Borris in Ossory with new elected representatives, after the May 23 election.
Two councillors who will not be participating in the election are Cllr John Bonham and Cllr Marty Phelan.
Both Therese Kelly and Carmel McNicholl from Laois County Council paid tribute to the councillors thanking them for their co-operation over the years. Senior executive engineer Brenda Cuddy also wished the councillors well in the future.
The other councillors also thanked Cllr Phelan and Cllr Bonham and many remarked that it was the end of an era for the councillors.
Cllr Marty Phelan had some words of advice for his colleagues who will be canvassing ahead of the local elections: “Do more listening than talking”.
Cllr John Bonham added that he would be paying close attention come May 23.
“I’ll be watching my back at local election time, that I don’t get sunburnt in Lanzarote”.
The next area meeting for Mountmellick and Borris in Ossory will be held in June.
