No funds for footpaths

THERE is no council funding for the repair of footpaths.

That was the reply to a motion put forward by Cllr Caroline Dwane, to have the footpaths fixed at Mountain View.

“It’s a small piece, eight to ten yards of footpath, which has completely subsided and split. It’s a danger to pedestrians, particularly children,” she said.

Beeping lights at JFL

ENSURE the new pedestrian lights on James Fintan Lalor Avenue are working properly, proposed Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald.

Cllr Fitzgerald said she had received complaints from visually impaired people that the beeping sound was not there to help them cross.

Farhan Nasiem, executive engineer, replied that the lights are working, but he would check the sound.

Safety barrier needed at Rossvale

A SAFETY barrier should be erected around the transformer box at 16 Rossvale Court, Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald told Portlaoise Town Council.

“Children are playing and climbing up on it,” she said.

Town engineer, Farhan Nasiem, said that the box was the responsibility of ESB and he gave a promise to discuss the matter with the local ESB area engineer.
