THERE is no funding available for improvement works to the roundabout on the Mountrath Road at Rockview.
That was the reply at the recent Portlaoise Town Council meeting, to Cllr Alan Hand’s proposal to improve safety at the roundabout and install a pedestrian crossing.
“There’s a steep incline to that roundabout and it’s not safe,” he said. “There’s just a spot painted on the road and people have to do a u-turn to get into Rockview.”
Cllr Hand pointed out that the roundabout is close to two schools and he suggested that at least one safety measure needs to be carried out.
“Young students have to take their chances on that road,” he said.
“There are huge concerns about traffic,” added Cllr Caroline Dwane.
“It’s about time we did something about it,” said Cllr Kathleen O’Brien.
