A disabled parking space on Portarlington’s French Church street needs to be removed, says Cllr Paul Mitchell at the Emo area meeting.
The council replied that the spot was marked as part of the parking by-laws.
“Removal of this disabled parking bay would be a move against the belief that access to services should be provided to everyone,” said Senior Engineer Orla Barrett.
Cllr Mitchell said the space was installed for Michael Webster, who had since passed on.
“It was so his nurse could call, now there is no need and it should be removed. There is another further up. Parking is at a premium here, it is a busy area. I am all for disabled parking, but in the right place,” he said.
