Supporting people with mental illness as well as their carers and families is the priority for The Triogue Centre in Portlaoise
Triogue Centre located at Bridge St, Portlaoise is among three units to be nominated for a National Health Care award.
“Innovations in practice including enhancement of the nurses’ role to include Initial Assessments, delivery of evidence based groups as well as outlining the ethos behind the day to day delivery of care at the centre obviously impressed the judging panel to the point of it being shortlisted in our category,” explained Rita Kelly, Clinical Nurse Manager at the Triogue Centre.
“Our philosophy of care is based on a recovery model which aims to support and empower clients of our service to be proactive in their own care and to achieve their personal potential in terms of their mental health.
“Our model of care involves carers and families and also encourages our Clients to engage with additional supports within their local community as an ongoing support beyond the time of their acute illness,” said Ms Kelly.
According to the Triogue Centre programmes such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) equip individuals to achieve their own potential, to maintain and improve their mental health and wellbeing.
The team at Triogue - including medical, nursing, social work, psychology and occupational therapy, addiction counselling and Cognitive behaviour therapy - work together with those using the centre to identify their needs and plan their care to help them achieve their own goals along their personal road to recovery.
