Laois County Council County Hall in Portlaoise.
A road running through a Laois village is deteriorating and needs urgent repair, a council meeting was told.
Describing the road in Ballyroan as “a very, very busy stretch of road”, Cllr Barry Walsh requested urgent action at a meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District meeting at the council's headquarters.
He asked in a motion: “That Laois County Council re-surface upper Main Street, Ballyroan as part of 2023 programmed works.”
In response, Senior Executive Engineer Wes Wilkinson said: “This location will be examined for consideration for re-surfacing as part of the 2023 Roads Programme.”
Cllr Walsh said the road is “starting to deteriorate from use and it needs to be looked at as a matter of urgency.”
Cllr John Joe Fennelly said the wide margin of the road needs to be included in any planned work. Cllr Walsh agreed that the margin needs to be included.
