A traffic accident led to a Mountrath man being charged with driving without insurance.
Michael Moore, 5 Kiln Lane, Mountrath, committed the offence at Barkmills, Mountmellick, on April 17 last year.
At last week’s sitting of the district court in Portlaoise, Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence that there was a traffic accident and the two parties exchanged their names and addresses.
However, it then transpired that the defendant’s insurance policy had lapsed due to non payments, the inspector said.
Defence for Moore was solicitor, Mr Philip Meagher.
Mr Meagher told the court that his client had been paying his insurance policy by instalments, but there had been a difficulty with the March payment.
Mr Meagher went on to say that Moore needed his licence for work.
Judge Catherine Staines convicted Moore and fined him €200.
