Ramp needed in one of two streets in Laois village due to speed

Controversy over speed ramps races on

Resident have raised a problem with speed

Cars needed to be slowed in one of the two streets in Borris-in-Ossory according to Cllr Conor Bergin.

So he told a recent meeting with Laois County Council’s management when he tabled a motion calling for the ramp Church St to reduce speeding in the interests of the safety of residents living on the street.

He explained further: “A lot of people think we have one street in Borris-in-Ossory but we actually have two”.

The Fine Gael councillor said residents have lived for many years on the street which now leads to housing estate.

“There is a lot of traffic on the street and it’s not able to take speed...event one speed ramp would make a huge difference for the residents,” he said.

He said people should take it easy on the street.

In a written reply, Mr. Edmond Kenny, District Engineer, said the pavement configuration will be examined at Church St to determine the need for traffic calming.

The issue was raised at the December meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District in County Hall Portlaoise
