EXTRA car parking spaces are needed for the residents of St Brigid’s Place in Portlaoise, due to an increase in the number of vehicles when a football match is being played locally.
The motion for more spaces was put forward by Cllr Caroline Dwane at the recent town council meeting.
Cllr Dwane said that many residents were put out by the fact that the county council did not inform them that an area in their estate was to be used for parking by two football teams.
Cllr Willie Aird said that the residents had done a great job of cleaning up their estate and he expressed hope that “common ground can be gained” between residents and the visiting football teams.
“It’s a fantastic facility up there,” he said.
Farhan Nasiem, town engineer, informed the meeting that the matter will be investigated and funding will be sought to carry out required works.
