Heartache has gripped Mountmellick and the wider community following the death of Dillon Joseph Kidney-Quinn.

The Little Blue Heroes Honorary Garda died unexpectedly surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 26. He was two years old.

Sadly missed by his loving parents Ann and Gavin, big brothers Tyler and Daragh, big sister Hannah, grandparents Martin and Marie, Joe and Marion, aunts, uncles and cousins, great grandmother, a wide circle of family and friends.

Laois Offaly Gardai and Little Blue Heroes expressed sadness and heartbreak at the loss. Little Blue Heroes posted: “Our hearts are saddened to hear that one of our Little Blue Heroes Honorary Garda Dillon Joseph Kidney – Quinn passed away unexpectedly on the 26th December surrounded by his loving family. Sadly missed by his loving parents Ann and Gavin, his family, friends and all his Garda and Little Blue Heroes colleagues. We are so proud that Honorary Garda Dillon HG211 is and will always be part of the Little Blue Family. In police work we talk about bravery, honour and courage and Dillon exemplified all of that.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Little Blue Hero laid to rest, he wore the uniform and gave his best,

Little Blue Hero fought so brave every day, honour and courage every step of the way,

Little Blue Hero smiled when you greet, now to take up duty on a heavenly beat.

Little Blue Hero we will never forget and always remember the times we had met.

Little Blue Hero under your care, watch down upon us and your guiding light we will share.”

Dillon's Mass of The Angels will take place on Saturday in St Joseph's Church Mountmellick at 10am. Burial afterwards in St Joseph's Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
