Man accused of assault in Midlands Prison

A man appeared in court accused of assaulting a prisoner in the Midlands Prison.
Patrick O’Dea, 56, with an address at the Midlands Prison is accused of assault causing harm to another prisoner on November 22, 2021.
Garda Sergeant Michael Tarpey gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on the accused.
Sgt JJ Kirby said the DPP had directed that the man be sent forward for trial to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court beginning on June 13.
Judge Andrew Cody sent the defendant forward the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court. He granted legal aid to Solicitor Philip Meagher and one barrister.
