Man in court over breach of Covid 19 regulations

The man appeared before Portlaoise District Court
A man breached Covid regulations in order to get a blanket for his horse, a sitting of Portlaoise District Court was told.
Jamie Flynn (30) of 24 Fairfield, Athy, Co Kildare admitted being more than 5km from his home when stopped at St John’s Square, Portlaoise on January 6, 2021.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby gave an outline of the State’s case.
“Himself and a number of other people were in Portlaoise on the date in question,” he said.
He said the man had a few convictions, primarily for road traffic offences, but hadn’t come to garda attention for four years.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was a single man who had an interest in horses. On the date in question he travelled because of a horse.
“He was getting a blanket for his horse,” she explained.
Judge Andrew Cody noted the guilty plea and said he would strike the case out if the man paid €250 to the court poor box. The money was handed over and the case was struck out.
