Man stumbled around Laois garda station and called officer a “stupid c**t”
The man had called to the garda station and asked to use the toilet at 5.50am
A man who was “stumbling around” the reception of a garda station called an officer a “stupid c**t”.
Gary Cripps (24) of 43 Oakleaf Place, Portlaoise pleaded guilty to being intoxicated and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour at Portlaoise Garda Station on June 8 last. He also admitted being intoxicated at his address on January 28, 2024.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant was “drunk and a danger to himself” at 2.07am in Oakleaf Place on January 28.
He arrived at Portlaoise Garda Station at 5.50am on June 8 and “identified himself, indicated he wished to use the toilet.” He was allowed to use the toilet but when he was done he became aggressive calling a garda “a fat bastard” and “a stupid c**t” while “stumbling around the station” and he had to be arrested, said Sgt Kirby. He said the man had five previous convictions.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was pleading guilty. She said the man had underlying mental health issues and had “very sadly lost his brother tragically only in the last week or so.”
She said the man had told her that he secured part time work in security and he had no previous convictions for public order offences. She said the man had written a letter of apology and entered an early guilty plea.
“He had indicated from the get-go a plea of guilty,” she said.
Judge Susan Fay ordered a probation report and adjourned the matter back to Portlaosie District Court on March 24.
