The man appeared before Portlaoise District Court
A man who was jailed for urinating on a garda cell appeared in court in relation to a suspended sentence for public order offences in Portlaoise.
Noel Lawlor (61) of Caddlebrook, Ballinagar, Castlerea, Co Roscommon was sentenced to three months in prison at Athlone District Court on August 18 for causing criminal damage to a garda cell in Athlone on July 13 last.
He appeared before Portlaoise District Court via video link as he had been given a one month suspended sentence at a court sitting in Portlaoise on July 7 for engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour on Main Street in Portlaoise on April 17, 2025.
The defendant, who had a bloodied face, appeared before the court via video link.
“I was assaulted here this morning on C2 landing,” he told Judge Patricia Cronin.
As the man continued to talk to Judge Cronin she asked him to “bear with me” as she read his file. The defendant apologised and said, “you are a nice lady.”
Solicitor Aisling Maloney requested an opportunity to consult with her client.
Judge Cronin said the time limit to lodge an appeal of the three month sentence had not expired. She adjourned the matter for a week to allow the defendant to lodge an appeal against his conviction for criminal damage at Athlone Garda Station.
“What I will do is allow Ms Maloney have a consultation with you,” said Judge Cronin.
She adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on August 28.
