Lost Laois visitors to Emo Court making 'dangerous U turns'

Emo Court, Laois

A lack of clear roadsigns to Emo Court in Laois is causing dangerous driving behaviour, a councillor claims.

The biggest visitor attraction in Laois, Emo Court is in Emo village just off the M7 motorway.

Visitors are missing the turn in the village and performing "dangerous U turns" claims Cllr PJ Kelly.

He tabled a motion asking for bigger signs, to the March meeting of Portarlington Municipal District.

"That Laois County Council erect more prominent signs showing Emo Village and Emo Court off the Portlaoise / Portarlington road at Coolbanagher as some motorists visiting Emo Court miss the turn and then perform at times dangerous U turns to get back onto the right road".

"I've highlighted this before. It is a dangerous junction. There is kind of a blind spot. People coming from Portlaoise do miss it, they overshoot the runway.

"There are issues there, there is a house and the garden is at risk if you don't make that turn," Cllr Kelly explained.

In response, Laois County Council undertakes to inspect the location and identify suitable spots for additional signage for Emo Court.
