Joe Mallon Motors has been named the National winner of the ZEVI EV Dealership of the Year award at the SEAI Energy Show in the RDS.

The Laois and Kildare dealership was selected by a panel of experts who assessed each dealership's performance across a range of criteria amid tough and challenging competition. A total of 124 car dealerships from 24 counties participated in this year’s awards, which is up 6% on last year.

Zero Vehicles Emissions Ireland (ZEVI), an office within the Department of Transport, and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) today announced the national winner of the 2023 ZEVI EV Dealership of the Year Award. The award, which is presented annually, recognises outstanding efforts in encouraging electric vehicle (EV) uptake in Ireland.

Four regional finalists were previously announced at the Society of the Irish Motor Industry Awards in February for their demonstrated commitment to best-in-class customer experience.

From those four regional finalists, Joe Mallon Motors, which has outlets in Portlaoise and Naas, was named the National Winner at the SEAI Energy Show in the RDS.

Joe Mallon Motors was selected for the award by a panel of experts who assessed each dealership's performance across a range of criteria, including showroom visibility of EVs, salesperson knowledge of EVs, sales approach, EV training, sales trends, and website presentation.

Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan said: "This award recognises outstanding achievement in the electric vehicle industry and highlights the importance of investing in sustainable transport. By providing customers with the tools and resources to make informed decisions about purchasing electric vehicles, dealerships are playing a critical role in the transition towards a cleaner, more sustainable transportation system. Congratulations to this year's winner and thank you for your dedication and commitment to promoting sustainable transport.”

CEO of SEAI, William Walsh said: “The electrification of our transport system is key to meeting Ireland’s ambitious climate action targets, with 30% of our private car fleet expected to move to electric by 2030. Dealerships are key partners in this transition, and we recognise those who have gone above and beyond in encouraging EV ownership among new car buyers. In turn, this is helping to create a second-hand EV market. Increasing the amount of EVs on Irish roads means drivers will pollute less, they’ll reduce their motoring costs, and they’ll benefit from the very latest technology. Congratulations to all participants this year for playing a very important part in Ireland’s decarbonisation journey.”

The award was presented at the second day of The SEAI Energy Show in the RDS in Dublin.  For more information on the 2023 ZEVI EV Dealership of the Year Awards, visit www.seai.ie
